Abstract
Background & Objectives: Post-episiotomy perineal pain is one of the most common causes of maternal morbidity and is often poorly treated. This study was performed to investigate effectiveness, side effects and patient satisfaction when lidocaine gel and placebo are used. Methods: In this double-blind clinical trial a total of 124 women who had normal viginal delivery with mediolateral episiotomy without other complications were randomly selected to receive lidocain gel or placebo. Pain intensity was assessed by numerical rating scale (0-10) after perineal pain in different intervals. Pain relief was assessed by number of pain pills, amount of gel used and the degree of painlessness. Repair of episiotomy was assessed by physical examination on 1 and 10 days after delivery. The data were used to fill out a questommaire. Finally, these data were analysed by SPSS ll (rel 11). Results: There was no significant difference in the amount of pain pills taken, the amount of gel used and patients satisfaction between two groups. Regarding the healing of episiotomy there was no significant difference between two groups in the first and tenth day examinations and all wounds healed on 10th day. Satisfaction of the patients regarding the use of gel was the same in two groups. Conclusion: Despite the findings of some similar studies, topical gel of 2% lidocaine was not significantly different from placebo for healing eposiotomy and relieving its pain. But in both groups result of healing on 10 th day postpartum was good. More studies are required to indicate the effect of high dose of lidocaine on pain relief and the positive effects of using gel on wound healing.

Abstract
Background & Objectives: One of the major concerns for parturient women and midwives is the healing of episiotomy and prevention of its subsequent complications. In order to achieve perineal healing in the past, cold and warmth therapy, traditional medicine and povidone iodine were used. But today episiotomy care includes ice pack and warm. One of non pharmacologic methods is aromatherapy and one of aromatherapy products is chamomile essence used in midwifery care and can extensively be applied to perineal healing and prevention of episiotomy infection. This clinical trial was conducted to assess the effects of chamomile essence on episiotomy healing on primiparous women referring to Talesh Hospital of Shaheed Norani in 2007. Methods: In this double blind clinical trial, 44 women on intervention group of chamomile essence and 44 women on control group of placebo used sitz bath together with routine care twice a day, for two weeks. Then episiotomy healing process was assessed on the first 12 hours, 7th and 14thdays of postpartum. Results: Healing process was considered as basic information on the first 12 hours. Findings showed that Mean pain on the 7th & 14th day decreased in the intervention group but it did not indicate a significant difference. Mean score (±standard deviation) perineal healing on the 7th day was on intervention group 1.61±1.08 and placebo group 1.34 ±0.9.Perineal healing mean on 14th day in intervention group 0.58 ±0.54 and placebo group 0.57±0.36. Mann Whitney, statistic tests showed no significant difference between these two groups. Conclusion: Results revealed that episiotomy healing was the same for both groups. It seems that more studies on this field with various doses and types of chamomile medical plant are necessary.

Abstract
Background & Objectives: Wounds healing especially as to surgical wounds is considered clinical problem. Kombucha is used as a food and adminstarted for wound healing. The aim of this study was to assess histopathological and histomorphometrical effect of Kombucha on surgical wound healing process in stomach of rat.
Methods: Thirty adult male Wistar rats with 10-week-old and weighted between 200-250 g were randomly divided into two groups (Control and Experimenral). After anesthesia, rats’ stomach was removed and a gastrotomy incision with the length of 1 cm was made in greater curvature, thereafter, sutured in 2 layers. Experimental group received Kombucha extract (1 ml/100gbw) and control group received normal saline (1 ml/100gbw) daily for 14 days through the gavage. In 3, 7 and 14 days after operation, five rats of each group were euthanized and stomach tissue specimens were collected for histopatholocical study by H&E and Masson's trichrome staining. Histopathological and histomorphometrical studies of wound healing among the groups were carried out considering more effective agents on wound healing including proliferation of fibroblasts, angiogenesis, re-epithelialization and collagen organization in healing tissue.
Results: The numbers of fibroblasts, capillary buds and organized collagen content in healing site of experimental group were significantly more than control group (p<0.05). The size of epithelial gap in experimental group was significantly lesser than control group (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Based on the results, Kombucha extract possesses beneficial effects on healing of stomach surgical wounds in rats.
