Abstract

Background: Diabetes is a significant risk factor for postoperative complications and mortality. However, there are different opinions about the relationship between the increase in glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level and the incidence of surgical complications.
Methods: In this retrospective study, 189 diabetic patients referred to Sabalan Hospital in Ardabil who were admitted for surgery were examined in 2021. The data related to demographic information, HbA1c test, postoperative complications, and the outcome of patients’ hospitalization were extracted from the records and entered into the researcher-made checklist. Patients were divided into two groups of uncontrolled diabetes with HbA1c of 7 and above and the controlled diabetes group with HbA1c below 7.
Results: Out of 189 patients included in the study, 97 patients were in the uncontrolled diabetes group, and 92 patients were in the controlled diabetes group. The average age of diabetic patients in uncontrolled and controlled diabetes groups was 58.18±8.91 and 61.84±5.52, respectively. According to the results, surgical site infection and the need for re-surgery during hospitalization showed a significant relationship with an HbA1c level (p0.05). Other postoperative complications were not significantly different between the two groups.
Conclusion: It seems logical that elective surgeries should be postponed in HbA1c levels higher than 7% because the presence of high HbA1c levels indicates that the patient’s diabetes is not under control, and as a result, there is a higher probability of chronic complications of diabetes as well as a higher risk for post-operative complications.

Abstract

Background: Photogrammetric analysis of facial soft tissue plays an important role in facial plastic surgeries. In many countries, planning for facial plastic surgery is done based on the defined facial metric standards for the same society. Few research works have been conducted in the field of facial cephalometric criteria of the Iranian race. The main goal of this study is to determine the average values of facial profile view metrics of people referred to Imam Reza Hospital (Ardabil).
Methods: First, in a period of 3 months, facial profile view images of the referred patients including 30 males and 30 females were provided. Then, the angular criteria of the profile view were measured by selecting 11 facial anatomical landmarks applicable for Rhinoplasty and Mentoplasty surgeries in the MATLAB software.
Results: The results showed that among the facial profile view metrics, the Nasofrontal, Nose Tip and Mentolabial angles are close to the criteria of the Turkish, Nepalese and Brazilian races, respectively. The Facial Convexity Including Nose (FCIN) metric is close to the Brazilian and Nepalese races, and also, Facial Convexity Excluding Nose (FCEN) is close to the Bangladesh and Brazilian races.
Conclusion: In this study, cephalometric analysis of facial soft tissue was done by measuring the facial profile view metrics to help facial plastic surgeons. Considering the difference in facial metrics of Iranians with other races, the criteria measured in this study can be interesting for surgeons in planning of facial cosmetic surgeries, especially Rhinoplasty and Mentoplasty.

Abstract

Background: Bacterial infections are a major cause of chronic infections and mortality, and antibiotics are the preferred treatment for bacterial infections. However, studies show that widespread use of antibiotics has led to the emergence of multidrug-resistant bacterial strains. Hence, the need to develop new and alternative strategies for the production of effective drugs has become an important issue. Recently, the use of nanotechnology has been widely common in various fields. Materials in the nanoscale have unique physical and chemical properties. Silver nanoparticles have different applications and their antimicrobial properties have been confirmed in several studies. This study aimed to investigate the antibacterial properties of silver nanoparticles synthesized by berberine and Hypericum perforatum extract.
Methods: In this experimental study, the antibacterial effects of synthesized nanoparticles on standard strains of Escherichia coli [ATCC 25922], Pseudomonas aeruginosa [ATCC 27853], Klebsiella pneumoniae [ATCC 9997], and Staphylococcus aureus [ATCC 29212] were investigated. The MIC content of silver nanoparticles alone and in combination with berberine and Hypericum perforatum extract was investigated for the studied bacteria using the broth microdilution method.
Results: The results of the evaluation of the minimum inhibitory concentration [MIC] of the synthesized compounds on the studied bacteria showed that the nanoparticles synthesized by berberine and Hypericum perforatum extract had the highest antibacterial effects. However, each of the compounds Berberine and Hypericum perforatum extract alone did not show significant antibacterial properties. The results of this study also showed that the highest inhibitory concentration of nanoparticles synthesized by berberine and Hypericum perforatum extract was related to Pseudomonas aeruginosa [0.0375 mg / ml] and the lowest inhibitory concentration was related to Enterococcus faecalis [0.185 mg/ml].
Conclusions: The results of the present study showed that silver nanoparticles synthesized with berberine and Hypericum perforatum extract have significant antibacterial effects. As a result, nanoparticles, including silver nanoparticles, can become one of the most important alternatives to antibiotics due to their unique properties in targeting bacteria. However, achieving definitive results requires further studies in this area.

Abstract

Background: Given the high prevalence of obesity and overweight and the detrimental impact on the mental health of affected people, the objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of narrative therapy on social physique anxiety in obese and overweight women.
Methods: The current research was a semi-experimental type, with a pre-test, post-test design with a control group. The study population for this research consisted of all obese and overweight women in Tabriz city in 2023. 30 women were selected by the available sampling method and were randomly divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group received narrative treatment in 8 sessions of 90 minutes, while the control group did not receive any treatment and was placed on the waiting list. At the end of the treatment period, a post-test was performed in both groups. The Social Physique Anxiety Scale by Hart et al. (1989) was used as the measurement tool. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (covariance test with repeated measures) by SPSS-24 software.
Results: In the pre-test, the mean and standard deviation of social physique anxiety in the experimental group were 44.33±2.289, while in the control group, it was 43.67±3.063. In the post-test stage, the values for social physique anxiety in the experimental group were 36.33±3.117, while in the control group, it was 43.80±3.385. The results indicated the effectiveness of narrative therapy (p<0.001). In the follow-up stages, it was found that the effects of narrative therapy are lasting (p<0.001).
Conclusion: According to the results, it can be concluded that narrative can be an effective method for reducing social physique anxiety in obese and overweight women.

Abstract

Background: Determining the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in liquids and biological samples is very important because of its effects on human health. This study aimed to design a new electrochemical biosensor based on hemoglobin to detect hydrogen peroxide in serum samples.
Methods: In this study, a basic science, a biosensor based on modifying the glassy carbon electrode surface with a nanocomposite consisting of cobalt oxide nanoparticles and multi-walled carbon nanotube functionalized with a carboxyl group (MWCNT/Co3O4) and hemoglobin stabilized on this nanocomposite was made as a biological recognition element.
Results: In optimal conditions, the biosensor was used to measure different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. The designed biosensor showed a wide linear response range from 10 μM to 500 μM, a detection limit of 0.512 μM, and high reproducibility and stability.
Conclusion: In this innovative research work, MWCNTs/Co3O4 nanocomposite was used to make a diagnostic biosensor. The presented biosensor showed an acceptable performance in the measurement of hydrogen peroxide in serum samples and laboratory solutions.

Abstract

Background: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) reestablishes electromyography activity during moderate activities such as walking but it is unclear whether this is also the case in sports activities such as running. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the acute effect of using anti- pronation insoles on muscle frequency content in an individual with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with pronated feet during running.                                                                  
Methods: The sample of this study consisted of 13 individuals with both ACLR and pronated feet aged 23.2±4.5 years and 13 healthy ones aged 22.9±4.1 years. During both Pre and Post-tests, participants ran barefoot on an 18-m runway at a constant speed of 3.3±5 m/s. The electromyography activity of the lower limb muscles was recorded during running with and without anti-Pronation insoles. Two-way ANOVA with repeated-measures test was used for statistical analysis.              
Results: The results indicated greater vastus medial frequency content in ACLR with the pronated feet group than that the healthy group during the loading phase (p=0.024). Also, results demonstrated that the rectus femoris frequency content was greater at the insole condition compared with and without it during the loading phase (p=0.014).
Conclusion: The results of this research showed a significant change in the activity of the quadriceps, hamstrings, gluteus medius, and gastrocnemius when using anti-pronation insoles in people with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and pronate feet. Therefore, it could be useful clinically.

Abstract

Background: Pneumocystis jirovecii (P. jirovecii) causes Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) in people, especially the immunocompromised ones. It is also one of the serious causes of numerous lung problems in affected patients. Since documented data about P. jirovecii is not available in patients with pulmonary infections in Tehran, this study aimed to investigate the molecular epidemiology and parasitology of Pneumocystis to determine the frequency of the organism infection.
Methods: Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) samples were collected for 367 patients hospitalized in the lung department of Shariati Hospital in Tehran from July 2022 to July 2023. The samples were analyzed using Giemsa staining and molecular methods. After DNA extraction from samples, Nested polymerase chain reaction (Nested PCR) was employed for the amplification of the 18SrRNA gene and identification of P. jirovecii. The PCR products of Nested PCR were sequenced for final confirmation. 
Results: Out of 367 samples, only one sample (0.27%) and 28 samples (6.7%) were found to be positive through parasitology and NestedPCR analysis, respectively. P. jirovecii was detected in seven (25%) and 21 (75%) immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients, respectively. Fever, shortness of breath and dry cough were the most common clinical symptoms among patients with Pneumocystosis. Patients with pulmonary disorders are prone to colonization by pneumocystis, which increases the risk of pneumocystosis and makes them a reservoir for transmission to susceptible people.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that patients with distinct lung disease are prone to colonization by Pneumocystis and, importantly, are at risk of infection. Also, according to the current study, Nested PCR was a suitable method for detecting P. jirovecii organisms because it had a very high sensitivity and specificity.

Abstract

Background: Many scientific Researches have shown that diethylnitrosamine, which is used to induce liver carcinoma, has destructive effects on the kidney. Menthol is a monoterpene type with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer effects. In the current study, we investigated the effect of menthol on the expression of tumor-related factors and HIF-1α/VEGF signaling in the kidney cells of mice receiving diethylnitrosamine.
Methods: In this research, 16 male mice at the age of 14 days were divided into four groups including Control, Menthol, Nitrosamine, and Nitrosamine-Menthol groups. Nitrosamine and Nitrosamine-Menthol groups received diethyl-nitrosamine intraperitoneally (25 mg/kg) at the age of 14 days. Menthol and Nitrosamine-Menthol groups also received menthol by gavage (50 mg/kg) three times a week for 6 consecutive months. At the end of this period, the expression level of SFRP1, VHL, CTNNB1, HIF-1α, and VEGF in the kidney cells was measured using real-time PCR method.
Results: Menthol treatment caused a significant increase in the expression level of SFRP1 (P=0.021) and VHL (P=0.013) and a significant decrease in the expression level of CTNNB1 (P=0.001), HIF-1α (P=0.000) and VEGF (P=0.000) in the kidney cells of Nitrosamine-Menthol treated group compared to the Nitrosamine group.
Conclusion: The results of this study showed that menthol prevents the decrease in the expression of tumor suppressor factors and the increase in the expression of tumor stimulating factors and factors effective in angiogenesis in the kidney of mice treated with diethyl-nitrosamine, so menthol is probably useful in prevention and treatment of renal cancer.

Abstract

Background: Opportunistic pathogens such as Cryptosporidium, Isospora belli, Blastocystis, etc. cause various gastrointestinal and non-digestive diseases in people with HIV. These symptoms are especially severe in people with HIV who have a CD4 count of less than 200. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of parasitic infections in people living with HIV in Tabriz.
Methods: This cross-sectional and descriptive study was performed on137 people with HIV referred to Behavioral Disease Counseling Centers in Tabriz, 2019-2021. Then, after receiving written consent, fecal samples were collected and evaluated for the detection of parasitic infections using direct methods, Ziehl-Neelsen and Trichrome Weber stain.
Results: A total of 137 stool samples were collected, including 93 males and 44 females. Most of them were in the age range of 20-60 years. The overall frequency of parasitic infections was 57.7% and the highest prevalence was related to Blastocystis 24.1% and Cryptosporidium 14.6%.
Conclusion: Due to the relatively high prevalence of parasitic infections, especially Blastocystis and Cryptosporidium in people with HIV in Tabriz, which can endanger the health of these patients, essential interventions, including personal hygiene training to control and prevent infection with these pathogens, seem to be necessary.

Abstract

Background: Toxocariasis is one of the most common diseases among humans and animals. According to the various studies, the rate of soil contamination with the worm's eggs in the world has been reported on average at 13.2% and in Iran at between 3.5 and 63.5%. Due to a lack of information about the status of infection with this worm in animals and humans in Yasuj city and also the importance of toxocariasis, this study was conducted to investigate the soil contamination of the Yasuj public parks with the eggs of Toxocara spp.
Methods: This descriptive study was performed on 150 soil samples from 6 parks in Yasuj in 2021. Samples were collected from five points based on geographical directions at a distance of 2–5 cm above the soil surface and transferred to the parasitology laboratory. To see the eggs of Toxocara species, a flotation method with saturated sugar water, and a light microscope with a 40X were used.
Results: Out of 150 soil samples from six parks, 11 samples (7.33%) were found to be infected with Toxocara species eggs and 139 samples (92.67%) were not contaminated. In total, out of the six investigated parks, pollution was not observed in two parks (33.33%), but pollution was observed in four parks with a contamination rate of 8% in three parks and 16% in one park.
Conclusion: According to the results of similar studies in Iran, it is concluded that Toxocara infections in the soil of Yasuj parks are similar to the national average and require more care, in terms of fencing the parks and preventing the free entry of dogs and cats.

Abstract

Background: Identifying protein interactions is one of the main challenges in the fields of biostructure and molecular biology. Despite extensive progress, the exact patterns of protein-protein interactions are still unknown. The main goal of this study is to computationally evaluate the interactions of fibronectin-1 in the extracellular matrix of decellularized trachea and integrins in adipose tissue stem cells in order to provide the most accurate possible visualization of these interactions and their role in biological processes.
Methods: After decellularization of the sheep trachea through the detergent-enzyme method, histological evaluations and ultrastructure photography of the samples were done by scanning electron microscopy. Also, the simulations of fibronectin1 binding of extracellular matrix protein with integrin αvβ1 and α5β3 of stem cells derived from adipose tissue were investigated, and interaction energy analysis was applied to predict the structure of protein-protein complexes using the algorithms available in HDOCK and ClusPro servers.
Results: The findings indicated the preservation of extracellular matrix components and scaffold ultrastructure. Also, in order to find the most favorable connection states in terms of energy, some of them were reported as stable interactions among the top types of connections. This insight provides a valuable understanding of cell-matrix adhesion, migration, and signaling, with potential implications for therapeutic development.
Conclusion: The prepared scaffolds are ideal for engineering applications for which computational analysis and experimental data have been used for visualization of stable connection states with energy efficiency between fibronectin and integrin. Also, more studies on cell adhesion modeling in connection with tissue engineering science can provide a suitable field for the development of regenerative medicine in further studies.

Abstract

Background: The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of dry needling on pain and pain pressure threshold (PPT) in patients with non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP).
Methods: 29 patients with NSCLBP were randomly allocated into two experimental (N=14) and control (N=15) groups. The dry needling intervention was considered for quadratus lumborum, gluteus medius, and lumbar multifidus, in 6 sessions, and subjects of the control group followed their routine lifestyle. The measurements included pain and PPT, which were evaluated in the pre-test, post-test, and follow-up periods. The pain was a variable that had a three-month follow-up assessment. Analysis of variance of combined measurement with repeated measurement and Benferoni's post hoc test were used to investigate the effect of the intervention on the outcome measurements.
Results: Three sessions of trigger point dry needling did not lead to a significant change in pain. However, after five sessions of dry needling, a significant decrease in pain was observed (p<0.05), and the positive changes significantly remained until one and three months after the end of the intervention (p<0.05). Furthermore; significant changes in PPT scores were detected following five sessions of trigger point dry needling treatment (p<0.05). These changes remained constant in the one-month follow-up assessment (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Dry needling for the trigger points of the QL, GM, and LM muscles can improve pain intensity and PPT in patients with NSLBP.

Abstract

Background: Obesity is a major health problem worldwide. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the effects of l-carnitine supplementation on physical factors related to health and lipid profiles in obese female children with basic gymnastics exercises.
Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, with a pre-test-post-test design and a placebo group, 60 obese children among the girl students of Isfahan with BMI=30.28 kg/m2 were selected purposefully and were divided into 4 groups (Basic gymnastics training, L-carnitine consumption, Combined, and Placebo). The training protocol was implemented for 12 weeks, three times a week, and 45 minutes for each session. Furthermore, the groups of L-carnitine consumption and combined used L-carnitine tablets with a dose of 2 g per day for 12 weeks. To analyze the data, multivariate covariance, and post hoc Tukey tests were used.
Results: A significant increase in Cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength and flexibility was observed in both basic gymnastics training and combined groups (p≤0.001). In addition, a significant decrease in total cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL and a significant increase in HDL were observed in the basic gymnastics training, and combined groups (p≤0.002). Also, the changes caused by the combined group on all variables were significantly better than other groups.
Conclusions: These findings indicate the beneficial effects of basic gymnastics training along with L-carnitine supplementation on physical factors related to health and lipid profile in obese children. Therefore, the combined use of basic gymnastic exercises and L-carnitine supplementation can be useful to improve these variables.

Abstract

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease in which organs and cells are damaged in the initial stages by tissue-binding autoantibodies and immune complexes. Clinical, demographic and laboratory information of patients with SLE in Ardabil province is the aim of this study.
Methods: The present study is a cross-sectional descriptive study that examines demographic data (age, gender), clinical information such as the first manifestation of the disease, clinical symptoms, etc., and laboratory findings such as CBC, ESR, CRP, proteinuria, FANA, Anti dsDNA, C3, C4, Anti RO and APS Ab of patients who referred to the rheumatology clinic of Imam Khomeini Hospital (RA) in 2021.
Results: Information related to the clinical characteristics of 50 patients, including 46 women (92%) and 4 men (8%), with an average age of 12.14 ± 40.78 years (range: 21-73) and age at diagnosis of 10.62 ± 31.76 years were investigated. The most common initial complaint in the studied patients was related to isolated joint symptoms (28%). The most common clinical symptoms observed in the examined patients were related to joint symptoms along with sensitivity to light with a frequency of 20%. ANA, anti-dsDNA tests positivity and reduced C3 and C4 levels were observed in 88%, 70% and 26% of patients, respectively.
Conclusion: The establishment of a registry system for the structured registration of information of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus in each region is necessary to a better understanding of the characteristics of the disease and better management policy of patients.

Abstract

Background: Weight gain and obesity are the global health problem. Time-restricted feeding is a relatively new method of weight loss with many metabolic and anthropometric benefits. Low-intensity aerobic exercise also has beneficial effects on weight loss and metabolic factors; However, the combined effect of TRF and low-intensity aerobic exercise on metabolic and anthropometric factors in healthy overweight middle-aged men has rarely been investigated. The present research has investigated this purpose.
Methods: Among 55 volunteers, 27 healthy middle-aged men in the age (35 to 55) with overweight (25 The groups included: 1-TRF18:6 & EX 2-TRF 16:8 & EX 2-TRF 14:10 & EX. Three groups performed TRF protocols with different feeding times (6, 8 and 10 hours of free feeding) and fasting in the remaining 24 hours, and the same low -intensity aerobic exercise (55-65% of maximum heart rate). The interventions continued for 12 weeks. Blood and body composition tests were measured before and after the intervention. Daily food intake was measured before the intervention and during 12 weeks. Finally, all the data were analyzed.Analysis of variance with repeated measures was used for analysis. P values ​​less than 0.05 were considered as a significant criterion in all statistical tests.
Results: The combination of TRF and exercise decreased glucose and insulin resistance in all groups. Cholesterol and LDL decreased in the 6-h and 8-h TRF groups. HDL reduction was significant only in the 8-h TRF group. Weight and BMI were reduced in the 6-h and 8-h TRF groups. The percentage of fat reduced in the 6-h group.  There was no significant difference between the groups for any of the variables. The average energy received in 12 weeks was not significantly different in any group; however the 6-h model caused a greater decrease in the average energy received during 12 weeks than in the other two groups.
Conclusion: The 6-h TRF model along with light aerobic exercise is suggested as the most reliable method to improve the metabolic and anthropometric profile in overweight middle-aged men.

Abstract

Background: Ginkgo biloba is a plant with many therapeutic characteristics because it’s rich in polyphenolic contents. This study was done to evaluate the antibacterial activities of Ginkgo and to compare the antibacterial potential of ethanolic, methanolic and aqueous leaf extracts of Ginkgo biloba.
Methods: The antibacterial activity of Ginkgo extracts was evaluated using a disc diffusion method against four strains of bacteria: Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Bacillus subtilis, and Staphylococcus aureus. The Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of the extracts were assessed.
Results: The results indicated that all extracts of Ginkgo possess distinguished antibacterial activity. Among them the methanolic extract exhibited maximum antibacterial activity and the aqueous extract showed minimum antibacterial activity. The highest MIC and MBC were determined at 3.13 and 6.25 µg/mL of aqueous extract against Bacillus subtilis, respectively.
Conclusion: Regarding the acquired results from this study, the leaves of Ginkgo biloba possess a considerable amount of antibacterial activity that can make them one of the most valuable antibacterial resources that could be used in food and therapeutic industries. Therefore, more studies should be conducted on this plant.

Abstract

Background: Early childhood caries is a disease that affects the quality of life of a child and his overall health; it can interfere with the child's daily activities and growth process. This disease is affected by various factors such as diet, oral hygiene, social health factors and psychological issues. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between early childhood caries in children and the parents’ quality of life.
Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 552 children aged 12 to 71 months in Ardabil city. The convenient sampling method was used and participants were patients who referred to Ardabil Dental Health Center. Dmft index (decayed, missing, and filled teeth) was assessed after examining the children. The World Health Organization questionnaire was used to evaluate the quality of life of the parents. The demographic information of children and parents was also determined. Statistical analysis included, kruskal-wallis, t-test and linear regression.
Results: The average score of the quality-of-life questionnaire was 66.42±17.91. No significant correlation was found between the mean quality of life of parents and dmft index. (p=0.916, r=0.008) A significant difference was observed between the child's dental caries and the father's age and education. (p<0.05) There was no significant difference in the mean dmft index, 5.32±0.5 in boys and 5.85±4.7 in girls. (p=0.459)
Conclusion: This study showed that the general quality of life of parents and its sub-branches such as the place where the child lives, the social and physical health of the parents are not directly related to early dental caries in children.

Abstract

Background: Antibiotic resistance represents a critical global concern within the medical community, posing significant challenges in the treatment of infections caused by drug-resistant pathogens. Over the years, broad-spectrum fluoroquinolones have been extensively used to treat infections caused by both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In this study, we decided to assess the prevalence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance mechanisms among clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa in Ardabil hospitals.
Methods: We analyzed a total of 200 clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa, collected between June 2019 and May 2023. The antibiotic resistance profiles of these strains against various fluoroquinolone antibiotics were determined using the disk diffusion method. Additionally, we investigated the presence of qnrA, qnrB, qnrC, qnrD, and qnrS genes through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis. Furthermore, we assessed the expression levels of efflux pump genes and outer membrane porin genes using the quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) in fluoroquinolone-resistant P. aeruginosa strains.
Results: Our findings revealed that 69% of P. aeruginosa strains were resistant to fluoroquinolones. The resistance rates for different fluoroquinolones were as follows: ciprofloxacin 55.5%, ofloxacin 62%, norfloxacin 53.5%, lomefloxacin 55.3%, and levofloxacin 55.5%. Notably, 78.9% of these strains exhibited multidrug resistance (MDR). Among the qnr genes, qnrB was the most prevalent (2.9%). No other qnr genes were identified. Interestingly, 75% of P. aeruginosa strains carrying the qnrB gene showed overexpression of efflux pump genes, while 100% exhibited down-regulation of the oprD gene.
Conclusion: Given the high prevalence of fluoroquinolone-resistant P. aeruginosa clinical isolates in Ardabil hospitals and the multifactorial nature of resistance, continuous monitoring of antibiotic resistance trends and understanding the underlying resistance mechanisms are crucial for selecting appropriate treatment strategies.

Abstract

Background: Oral mucositis as a complication of chemotherapy has posed significant challenges to the quality of life in cancer patients. Tricyclic antidepressants, including nortriptyline can control the pain caused by mucositis by inhibiting sodium channels. Since patient compliance and rapid drug effect are the goals of the proposed formulation, it was decided to prepare and evaluate a nortriptyline mouthwash according to the United States Pharmacopeia.
Methods: Based on the pharmacopeia, the necessary excipients in the nortriptyline mouthwash were determined, and the amount of each was specified. After validating the UV spectrophotometric technique, drug interaction with the mouthwash container was investigated. In addition to measuring the aqueous activity, necessary microbiological tests were also performed.
Results: The UV spectroscopy method validation for nortriptyline was performed at the obtained maximum absorption wavelength (238.5 nm). The findings of the investigation of the interaction of polyethylene terephthalate container with nortriptyline indicate almost no drug adsorption into the internal part of the mouthwash container over 28 days. The results of antibacterial and antifungal/antimycotic tests were within the standard range of the United States Pharmacopeia. The mouthwash's aqueous activity was also found to be 0.81, indicating an unfavorable environment for microbial growth.
Conclusion: This study has shown that the prepared nortriptyline mouthwash meets microbiological resistance standards and there is no interaction between the active drug ingredient and the proposed container. Therefore, this formulation can be suggested as a promising candidate for clinical exploration.

Abstract

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that gradually destroys the synovial joints and leads to chronic inflammation. This autoimmune disorder is associated with an increase in stress-related symptoms, including anxiety and depression, and a decrease in social behaviors, which severely reduces the patient's quality of life. Previous studies show that higher physical activity during adolescence may lead to a decrease in neurobehavioral disorders in adulthood. This study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the increase of physical activity from early adolescence on stress-related behaviors and inflammation in mice with rheumatoid arthritis.
Methods: Male mice were randomly exposed to a running wheel from early adolescence to adulthood, and then rheumatoid arthritis was induced. Stress-related behaviors, including anxiety, depression and social behavior were investigated in animals. The level of interleukin 17 (IL-17) and interferon gamma (IFN-γ) were also measured as important inflammatory markers in the serum.
Results: The results showed that physical activity from early adolescence significantly resulted in decreased stress in mice with rheumatoid arthritis. In addition, the running wheel led to a decrease in the levels of (IL-17) and (IFN-γ) in rheumatoid arthritis-induced mice as two important indicators of inflammation.
Conclusion: This study shows that increased physical activity during adolescence to adulthood may make mice resistant to increased stress and inflammation caused by rheumatic arthritis.
