Abstract

Presence of foreign bodies in the anal canal and rectum is usually due to introducing of objects. Various clinical presentation and lack of tendency for giving a definable history are important which may cause delayed and misdiagnosis of disease.

In this study the case of a 35 years old man with 10 days history of abdominal distention and pain admitted to hospital is reported. The patient underwent laparotomy because of clinical findings in favor of peritonitis. We found that rectal perforation was due to presence of an orange in the anal canal.

Anal canal foreign bodies cause different and unusual clinical presentation. Therefore good clinical and especially rectal examination is advised for early diagnosis and treatment.
