Abstract
Background & Objectives: Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) is the most common benign laryngeal tumor and the second common cause for hoarseness in children. Despite its omplete benign histology, it has a great tendency to spread through the respiratory track and frequent recurrences may occur following surgery, possibly due to the virus survival in apparently healthy adjacent tissues. According to the most recent evident experiences, the treatment of choice for RRP disease is repetitive resections with CO2 laser. The present study evaluates the efficacy of adjuvant medical therapies for eradication of this disease in affected children. Methods : This was an experimental study with sequential control (self-control). The subjects were children who referred to ENT-H&N surgery dept. of Hazrat-e- Rasoul hospital in Tehran between Mar 1998 and Mar 2001 with chief complaint of hoarseness and respiratory obstruction. Among these children patients with confirmed diagnosis of RRP were selected as study samples and the effect of acyclovir and alpha-interferon combination in reducing the severity and recurrence of RRP was evaluated. Results: Totally 18 patients entered this study (10 (55.5%) females and 8 (44.5%) males). The mean age of the patients was 6.5 and 94% of them were the first child of young mothers (under 25 years of age). The signs of respiratory obstruction in most of the cases with a mild to moderate severity was the main cause of referral in 45% of the subjects. Laryngeal lesions were mostly superficial and limited to glottis region. Severity and spread of RRP disease was greater in children under 3, which led to tracheotomy in 3 of them. The combined administration of alpha-interferon and acyclovir, made a significant reduction in disease severity and spread in 55.6% of the patients. Conclusion : The findings of this study indicated that combination of acyclovir and alpha-interferon can be effective in reducing RRP recurrences and severity. Nevertheless, because of small sample size(due to rarity of RRP), Further multi-institutional studies are required to obtain a greater sample size and more valid results.

Abstract
Introduction : Meniscal tears are one of the most common injuries treated by arthroscopic techniques. Arthroscopic meniscal repair is an accepted way of treatment for meniscal tears. Different arthroscopic techniques for meniscal repair are: inside-out, outside-in and all inside. In the first 2 techniques, meniscus is repaired by sutures and in the later by suture or by commercial ready implants . The goal of current study is assessing clinical results of arthroscopic repair of longitudinal meniscal tears with vertical cruciate double mattress sutures by outside-in technique after 9 months. Methods: In this case series study, in 13 patients having criteria for engaging the study with longitudinal isolated meniscus tear, arthroscopic meniscal repair was done with vertical cruciate double mattress sutures by outside-in technique and patients were followed for 9 months. Results: Of 13 patients, there were 12 males (92.3%) and one female (7.7%) aged 15-38 (average 28.3) years. In follow up period, there was one case (7.7%) of irritation by subcutaneous knot. There was not any failure of repair. Average Lysholm score increased from 55.23 to 91.23 after 9 months of follow up, which was statistically significant (p<0.001). At the end of follow up period, there was not any medial joint line tenderness of knee, giving way or significant effusion or pain. Conclusion: This study shows that this technique has a good short term outcome with no failure and low complications but it is necessary to do more long term studies to prove it.

Abstract
Background & objectives: Parasitic infections are among important health problems all over the world especially in developing countries. Considering the epidemiological importance of parasitological diseases and necessity to evaluation the parasites prevalence in different areas and populations, current study aimed to determine the prevalence of intestinal parasites in patients admitted to the laboratories of Baqiyatallah Hospital in Tehran.
Methods: This is a retrospective cross sectional study in which stool examination reports of all referred patients (70978) to central and emergency laboratories of Baqiyatallah hospital were evaluated during 2010-2014. In this course, at least one stool sample of patients was assessed by direct smear and formalin-ethyl acetate methods. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in SPSS 16. Chi-square test was used for comparison of the prevalence.
Results: From 70978 patients, 42421(59.77%) and 28557(40.23%) were male and female, respectively. From 2617 infected individuals, 1841(70.3%) and 776 (29.7%) were males and females, respectively. The prevalence of pathogen and non-pathogen intestinal parasites was 2283(87.23%) and 334(12.76%) respectively. Also the prevalence of intestinal helminthes and protozoa in infected population was 0.42% and 99.57%, respectively. Blastocystis hominis and then Giardia lamblia were the prevalent parasites.
Conclusion: In current study the prevalence of parasites is lower than those reported in other investigations. Differences in geographical location, sample size, duration and type of study (prospective or retrospective) and study population may be effective agents. The higher prevalence of "Blastocystis hominis" in comparison with other parasites can attract more attention to improve the quality of laboratory and clinical diagnosis of this protozoa
